Holyhead Sailing Club - Squib FleetHolyhead Sailing Club has a thriving Squib fleet, with new members and boats joining all the time. The fleet currently stands at 20 boats, however we welcome new-comers with open arms.

The Squib Fleet enjoys a packed sailing schedule,  racing three times a week:

  • Sunday Morning - Race start 10:30
  • Wednesday Evening - Race start 18:40
  • Friday Evening - Race start 18:30

The regular scheduled racing takes place in either the New Harbour (inside the breakwater limits) the Outer Harbour, or Penrhos Bay - dependent on wind direction, speed and other weather related conditions. Normally racing will utilise any one of a number of race marks, laid to provide the best, and most challenging competition.

Holyhead Squib Fleet - one day regatta, JuneIn addition the fleet will often arrange Mini regatta's - one day events, consisting of 4 or more races, held back to back, in order to maximise the use of the boats during the season. This has been extremely successful in the past, and has proved an attractive draw to new members/owners looking for close quarter, single class racing.

Holyhead Squib Fleet - Rutland Insland Championships 2012 H.S.C Squib Fleet on tour..

In 2012 Five crews and four squibs from Holyhead made the intrepid journey to Rutland for the Inland championships.

So excited to be a member of the Holyhead Fleet, Arewl (John) Roberts made the trip just to get a ringside seat, in readiness for hi 2013 campaign!

Despite having less than expected results on the water, a great time was had by all!, with promises of a return for 2013.  So much fun was had, the crews have already started planning a number of trips for 2013, including the potential for a visit to Kinsale for the Irish Nationals!  In terms of Rutland results, Gareth Pritchard and his trusty crew Steve Mcwirk came out on top as the best Holyhead boat, posting a respectable 24th place, and winning the bronze fleet trophy,  in what can only be described as extremely tricky conditions! Well done Gareth.  As for the other teams, the less said about that, the better...For Sale Squib 57..

Which is fastest...Polished or Dull?

Within the fleet there are regular debates as to which is best, a shiny polished hull, or a "shark-skin"

hull.  In an effort to answer this question I have included a link to an interesting article Click Here
